Happy New Year!
January is my business birthday month. This is my second year in business and what a year it has been!
It has been a true rollercoaster of emotions! At the beginning of the year, I had attended some more silversmithing courses to learn new and brush up, existing skills. I ordered in new equipment so I could do more metal working from home and I was full of ideas. The first couple of months were great!
Then the pandemic hit…I remember sitting there staring at the TV when the first lockdown was announced and just being absolutely devastated. I was not sure what that would mean for my business, I honestly thought I may have to close, and I worried for my children with them having to come out of school too. It was such an uncertain time.
That Sunday I entered the Theo Paphitis Small Business Sunday Award; he runs it each week for small businesses. You can tweet him about your business and if your picked as one of his six winners you get access to an amazing group of business people, as well as tips and support from the SBS crew. I popped on a little message to Theo explaining what I did and a picture of the steampunk cufflinks I had made and that was that.
Monday night I was again, watching the update on what would have to close and trying to search online whether I could continue to run my business as I work from home, my phone started going crazy! Beeping constantly with notifications, I grabbed it all confused hit open to see a tweet from Theo announcing me as one of his winners! I could not believe it! That week was crazy, it was the boost I needed.
June came I was then awarded the Queen of Unique Jewellery by the Royal Connection on Twitter which was another lovely boost!
It has been a juggling act of home learning for my little ones while the schools were shut, daily walks for exercise and making and creating whenever possible.
I have been so overwhelmed with love and support this last year with so many of you supporting small businesses and shopping small. I have managed to continue to run my business, I have met some incredible people, not just customers but other supportive businesses too. I have managed to meet; all be it virtually, lots of new and wonderful customers. So even though I have missed out at seeing people face to face at the fairs I would have attended, I feel like I have been able to connect with so many more people which has been absolutely lovely.
Thank you all for being so amazing, it may not seem like much to others but every time you like, share, comment, recommend and purchase it really means the world!
I am hopeful that 2021 will be better. It hasn’t been an easy year for anyone, professionally and personally and for that I send you all love. I wish you all health and happiness for this year, fingers crossed everything is on the up!
I will be celebrating my business birthday with a giveaway this month so make sure you follow my social pages and sign up to my newsletter so you can join in.
Thank you all again and happy new year
